Responsibilities:

  • Develop and deliver engaging physical education lessons for students from grade 2-9, incorporating a variety of activities, sports, and games.
  • Promote physical fitness, sportsmanship, teamwork, and a positive attitude towards physical activity among students.
  • Create and implement age-appropriate lesson plans that align with the Alberta curriculum and educational objectives.
  • Assess and evaluate students’ physical abilities, progress, and performance, providing constructive feedback and guidance.
  • Plan and organize sports events, intramural activities, and inter-school competitions, encouraging student participation and fair play.
  • Collaborate with colleagues to integrate physical education concepts into other subject areas and promote cross-curricular learning.

  • Ensure the safety and well-being of students during physical education classes, following established health and safety protocols.
  • Stay informed about current trends, research, and best practices in physical education, incorporating new techniques and strategies into teaching practices.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Physical Education, Kinesiology, related field or experience as a PE teacher is an asset
  • Valid teaching certification from the Alberta Ministry of Education is required
  • Experience teaching physical education to students of various age groups.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of physical education curriculum frameworks, teaching methodologies, and assessment strategies.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to engage and motivate students effectively.
  • Passion for promoting physical fitness, health, and well-being among students.
  • Ability to create a positive and inclusive learning environment that fosters students’ self-confidence and self-esteem.
  • Knowledge of different sports and activities, including traditional games and culturally diverse physical activities.
  • First Aid and CPR certification is an asset.
  • Knowledge and understanding of Sikh culture and traditions is desirable.
