Education Assistant

Khalsa School Calgary wishes to fill an opening full-time education assistant(s) for the remainder of the 2025-2026 academic year with the potential to continue to the following 2026-2027 school year. The successful candidates will provide support to teachers at the lower and upper elementary, as well as junior high level, or as directed by the Principal. Khalsa School Calgary is a rapidly expanding Sikh school that is in its nineteenth year of operation. The school focuses on academic excellence, while developing and maintaining a spiritual environment that instills the highest standard of moral and humanitarian values.
Khalsa School Calgary teaches students from kindergarten to grade nine, and is an educational institution that aspires to promote teaching-learning excellence in every aspect of school life.
The Applicant Must Display:
Must demonstrate a strong ability to work collaboratively in the best interest of students with an energetic, disciplined and insightful approach to all pedagogical processes
An ability to understand and work with each student’s individual needs in a proactive and thoughtful manner is essential
A strong belief and value system, an ability to act as a role model and an ability to excel and thrive in a unique and rich cultural setting
An ability to demonstrate strong teaching / learning processes and a willingness to reach out to students, parents and other staff in a proactive manner

Post-secondary Certificate or Diploma in Education Assistance, Special Education Support, or a related field would be an asset

Key Responsibilities:
- Teach and play the Tabla proficiently.
- Have a strong understanding of Gurmat Raagas and prepare shabads according to students’ levels.
- Communicate effectively with students and prepare them for upcoming Gurpurabs and major Sikh events such as Guru Nanak Dev Ji Parkash, Vaisakhi, Nagar Kirtan, Gurudwara performances at Dashmesh Cultural Centre every last Sunday of the month, and school assemblies every Friday.
- Collaborate effectively with the Tabla teacher and other staff members.
- Create and deliver report cards on student progress twice a year.
- Communicate effectively with parents about student performance and progress.
- Participate in school events and committees.
- Provide indoor and outdoor supervision as required by administration.

Responsibilities:
• Design and deliver comprehensive Punjabi language instruction to students • Foster an engaging and inclusive classroom environment that promotes cultural appreciation and understanding
• Develop lesson plans, instructional materials, and assessments aligned with Punjabi curriculum outcomes
• Utilize effective teaching strategies to engage students of diverse backgrounds and learning needs
• Assess and provide timely feedback on student progress, maintain accurate records, and communicate with parents/guardians
• Collaborate with colleagues to promote cross-curricular integration and participate in professional development activities
• Actively contribute to the Punjabi language program’s development & enhancement Qualifications:
• Must have work authorization
Specialization or expertise in teaching Punjabi language and culture
• Strong communication skills in Punjabi and English, with the ability to effectively teach language skills to students
• Understanding and appreciation of Sikh faith-based values and their integration into education • Ability to create an inclusive, respectful, and supportive learning environment for students • Experience in teaching Punjabi language to students at various grade levels is an asset
