I bring with me over 10 years of teaching experience from both India and Alberta.I hold a Bachelor of Education and a Master’s degree in Applied Physics from Punjabi University, Patiala. My passion for teaching is rooted in a deep commitment to helping students grow both academically and personally.In my free time, I enjoy reading and spending quality time with my family. My name is Navneet Sandhu and this is my fourth year teaching Kindergarten at Khalsa School Calgary. I graduated from the University of Calgary with a Bachelor of Education in 2022 and worked for a short period as a substitute teacher with KSC and the Rocky View School Division. As a teacher, I am committed to ensuring the success of my students by creating supportive and positive environments where students can take risks and contribute to community learning without the stigma of being wrong. I am passionate about creating learning activities that reflect the diversity of my students and aim to stimulate curiosity and engagement in my students through hands-on, activity based learning opportunities. In my free time, I enjoy hiking and being outdoors, and spending time with my family, friends, and my energetic dog.

Hello! My name is Ms. Japjeet Kaur Dhugga. This will be my third year teaching Kindergarten at Khalsa School Calgary. I have a Bachelor of Education degree, with a minor in Mathematics. My passion in teaching is to incorporate Mathematics and Fine Arts together to create hands-on and engaging learning experiences for all students. It is great seeing how the students grow throughout the year to become more confident in themselves and their abilities. During my free time I enjoy painting landscapes, doing nature photography, and reading a good book! I am looking forward to another year of fun learning and growth.
Ms. Simranjeet Kaur

My name is Simranjeet Kaur , and I am thrilled to be starting my first year at Khalsa School Calgary as a Kindergarten teacher. I have over 5 years of teaching experience in India and Canada. I hold a Bachelor of Science in Non-Medical, a Bachelor of Education, and a Master of science in mathematics. I love working with young children and watching their personalities, confidence, and curiosity grow throughout the year. In my classroom, I hope to make learning enjoyable through stories, creativity, movement, conversation, and hands-on activities. I want my students to feel comfortable being themselves, trying new things, and celebrating their progress along the way. When I am not teaching, I enjoy dancing, travelling, spending time with my family and friends, and exploring new places. I am excited to meet my students and families and begin this new chapter together. I look forward to a year full of new discoveries, little achievements, lots of smiles, and wonderful memories!

My name is Ms. French, and I’ve been part of the teaching team at Khalsa School Calgary for the past five years. This year, I’m excited to be teaching Grade 1. I focus on creating a warm, engaging, and supportive classroom where young learners feel confident to grow. I believe in building strong foundations in literacy and numeracy while encouraging creativity and curiosity. I make learning meaningful through hands-on activities, discussions, and real-world connections. I’m passionate about helping students grow academically and as kind, respectful individuals. I value strong relationships with students, families, and colleagues and feel fortunate to be part of such a caring school community. Outside the classroom, I enjoy yoga, puzzling, paddle boarding, and spending time in nature with my dog, Kirby. My name is Gurkaran Sandhu. I graduated from the University of Calgary with a Bachelor of Education in 2022. I worked as a substitute teacher for a few months before joining the team at Khalsa School Calgary, and I am now in my fourth year teaching Grade 1 here! As a teacher, I am committed to providing students with a positive and welcoming learning environment. I prioritize developing and implementing a range of lessons that maximize student engagement. When I am not teaching, I enjoy spending time with my family and friends.
Ms. Prabhveer Sandhu

Mrs. Prabhveer Sandhu is excited to be part of the Khalsa School Calgary community and to begin another year supporting young learners as a Grade 1 teacher. This will be her fourth year with Khalsa School Calgary. She has been teaching elementary students since 2019 and has seven years of teaching experience in both British Columbia and Alberta.Mrs. Sandhu holds an M.Sc. in Microbiology and a B.Ed. My name is Teresa Huang, and I am so excited to be your child’s teacher this year!I was born in the United States and grew up in California before moving to Calgary when I was 14. My husband and I love to travel, and we visit China every summer break. Outside of teaching, I enjoy travelling, reading, drinking coffee, and, of course, going to Costco! I have been teaching since 2018 and have experience teaching Grade 9 Math and Science, Grade 1, Grade 2, and working as an intervention teacher. I bring teaching experience from both Canada and India, including roles as a Substitute Teacher at KSC and Rocky view schools, Childcare Educator in Canada. I have also been a Science Teacher in Indian schools and have experience teaching many graduates and post graduates in eminent universities of India as an Assistant Professor. My name is Poonam Ghanghas, and I have been an educator for 16 years. I hold a Bachelor’s degree in Education and a Master’s degree in Chemistry. I have been part of the Khalsa School Calgary community since 2014, spending more than a decade as a Reading Intervention Teacher before transitioning to my current role as a Grade 3 teacher. I believe teaching is about so much more than academics. My goal is to create a classroom where every child feels safe, valued, respected, encouraged, and excited to learn. I love creating engaging, hands-on experiences that help students discover their strengths, build confidence, and become independent learners. I firmly believe that teaching is a lifelong learning journey, and that some of our greatest lessons come from our students. I began my teaching career in 2014 after earning my Bachelor of Education degree from the University of Calgary. With over a decade of experience in education, I have taught students in Grades 2–5. I am passionate about creating a warm, inclusive, and engaging classroom where every student feels valued, supported, and inspired to learn. Outside of school, I enjoy spending time with my family and friends, exploring local trails, and making memories with my two daughters. Ms. Oleg Kovalchuk

My name is Oleg Kovalchuk, and I am delighted to welcome your child to Grade 3 at Khalsa School. Students usually call me Mr. Kovalchuk, but please feel free to call me Oleg.I bring over a decade of teaching experience, including six years overseas and six years in Canada, working with students in Grades 1–3. This is my second year teaching Grade 3 at Khalsa School, and I am excited to be part of this warm and vibrant community.I hold Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Education from Europe, as well as a three-year diploma in the Montessori Method from Vancouver. Before becoming a teacher, I worked as a nurse at one of Calgary’s major hospitals. These experiences have strengthened my commitment to nurturing the whole child—academically, socially, and emotionally. I am passionate about helping children learn with curiosity and confidence, with a special love for science, literacy, and math and their real-world connections.

My name is Ruchika Sharma, and I am delighted to be returning to KSC for my second year as a Grade 4 teacher. What I find most fascinating about teaching children is the way they see the world—with curiosity, honesty, creativity, and a unique perspective of their own. I truly enjoy listening to their ideas and watching them make connections, ask questions, and grow in confidence each day. My name is Jasmeet Kaur Sethi. This is my second year with the school, but I have been a dedicated educator since 2011. I deeply care about the academic growth and emotional well-being of every child in my classroom. As a mother of two, I feel closely connected to the school community and understand the importance of a nurturing and engaging learning environment. Beyond the classroom, I enjoy a variety of creative hobbies including calligraphy and painting. Hello! I’m Varsha Singh, and I’m excited to continue being part of the Khalsa School community as a Grade 7 English Language Arts and Social Studies teacher. I hold a BCA, B.Ed., and MCA and have been part of Khalsa School for a few years, teaching across different grades and subject areas, including Grade 4, Grade 8 English Language Arts and Social Studies, and Grade 7 English Language Arts and Social Studies. I enjoy creating a classroom where students feel comfortable sharing their ideas, asking questions, and being themselves. Before joining Khalsa School, I taught Grade 8 Math and Science on a term contract at St. John’s High School in Winnipeg. Since then, I have taught full-time at Khalsa School, including four months with Grade 6 and a full year teaching Grade 7 Math, Science, and Social Studies. Over the past four years, I have focused primarily on teaching Grade 7 Math and Science. I am truly grateful for the opportunity to be part of this wonderful school community. I was born and raised in Winnipeg and have lived in Calgary for the past seven years. Ms. Reena Obhi

My name is Reena Obhi, and I am very excited to be teaching Grade 8 this year. This is my sixth year at Khalsa School Calgary and I have been working in education for 20 years. Over the course of my career, I have primarily taught middle school and continue to have a special passion for working with middle school students. This year, I will be teaching Language Arts and Social Studies. I was born and raised in Canada and grew up in Manitoba, where I completed my BA at the University of Manitoba. I also earned my BEd from the University of Calgary. My goal as a teacher is to inspire students to be confident, motivated, and the best version of themselves. I believe a respectful, safe, and supportive classroom environment is essential for success. When I am not teaching, I enjoy running, traveling, baking, and spending time with my family and friends.
Ms. Jyoti Kahlon

My name is Jyoti Kahlon. I am an Alberta Certified Teacher with over 30 years of experience teaching in India, Dubai, Muscat, and Canada. I hold a Bachelor’s Degree in Education (English and Special English), a Master’s in Ecology and Environment, and a Postgraduate Certificate in Educational Research from the University of Calgary.
Before joining Khalsa School Calgary, I taught at a private school and later with the Calgary Board of Education, teaching English and Social Studies to Junior and Senior High students.
This year marks my tenth year at Khalsa School. After teaching Grade 6 for nine years, I have now joined Division 3, where I will be teaching English Language Arts and Social Studies. I strive to create a safe, inclusive, and engaging classroom that values students’ unique talents and
learning styles while encouraging curiosity, confidence, and critical thinking. Outside of teaching, I enjoy reading, gardening, travelling, and spending time with my two dogs. I am a proud mother of two.

I am an Alberta Certified Teacher with over 10 years of experience instructing physics, mathematics, and general sciences to middle and high school students. I was born and raised in Delta, BC, and have called Calgary home for the past six years. I graduated from Simon Fraser University with a major in History and a Bachelor of Education.I am proud to be part of the Khalsa School Calgary community, where I teach Social Studies and Language Arts and serve as the Division 3 Lead. I enjoy working with students, families, and staff to support student success and create a positive learning environment. My goal is to make learning meaningful and engaging while helping students develop the knowledge, skills, and confidence they need to succeed. Outside of school, I enjoy spending time with my two young children and keeping busy with family life. My name is Kiranjit Kaur Brar, and I have been teaching Math and Science for the last 32 years. This is my eleventh year of teaching at Khalsa School, Calgary. Throughout my career, I have had the privilege of working with students of many different ages and backgrounds, and truly enjoy helping young people discover their strengths and build confidence in learning. My educational background is M.Sc ( Hons) Physics. B.Ed and P. B. D.E . I am excited to teach grade 8 and 9 Math to our young curious learners, and wish to see them progress in their lives.

I hold a Bachelor of Science and a Master of Science in Chemistry, along with a Bachelor of Education (B.Ed.) from Panjab University, Chandigarh, India. After upgrading my education at the University of Calgary, I received my Alberta Teaching Certification. Before joining Khalsa School Calgary, I gained teaching experience with the Calgary Catholic School District and the Calgary Board of Education. Throughout my career, I have taught a variety of Science and Mathematics courses to both school and undergraduate students.Teaching is deeply rewarding to me, and I take pride in encouraging my students to work hard, support one another, become confident learners, and grow into responsible, compassionate members of the community.

My name is Kristopher Koloff, my students usually call me Coach K. This is my second year with the Khalsa School Team as the Director of Athletics and Physical Education. I have a B.A. Honours Degree majoring in History and minoring in Philosophy. I have my B.Ed which focused on grades 7-12. I taught for twelve years at River Valley School in Bowness. I have a passion for fitness, working out, nutrition and getting everyone to enjoy movement in some way. I help people see the connection between physical fitness and mental fitness, and its effect on general performance.

I have been teaching for almost 22 years in various fields such as educational coaching, tutoring, and volunteering in school and camp settings. I earned my bachelor’s, majoring in Mathematics and Science, and a Master’s in Statistics. I have been tied with Khalsa School since 2013 as a volunteer and it’s been a great pleasure. As of 2015, I have been working in the Punjabi and Gurmat Department in different roles including as a Punjabi and Gurmat Instructor and Lead. I look forward to guiding the young minds of children and being a part of their educational journey!

Harpreet Singh is the Tabla Teacher at Khalsa School Calgary and has been part of the school community for over 13 years. He teaches students in Grades 1–9 and enjoys helping them develop their Tabla skills and confidence while supporting their learning of Gurbani Kirtan. He especially enjoys preparing students for school and community performances. I completed my Bachelor of Education degree from the University of Calgary and I have been with Khalsa School Calgary since April, 2012. I taught grade 2 for several years before moving into the Student Services Coordinator role. I have also served as an Acting Assistant Principal for a school year. I am very proud of all the strides KSC has made to get to where it is now. Witnessing and being part of our growing community has been a true joy. Outside of being an educator, I have two young children that keep me very busy.

Graduating with a Bachelor of Education and Master of Arts in English, I began my teaching career in India. Upon immigrating to Canada, I began working at Khalsa School Calgary in 2008. For the past 17 years, I have undertaken a large variety of positions, from teaching assistant to technology manager. After obtaining certifications in library management, web design, and IT management, my permanent role transitioned to the IT Coordinator and Library Technician. I continue to lead projects and committees around the school — growing my passion for the students and school community every year.

My name is Harjeet Kaur, and I am very happy to be a part of the Khalsa School family. I hold a Master of Philosophy in Administrative Services and completed my Educational Assistant training in England. Before moving to Canada in 2018, I worked in an elementary school for 10 years, an experience that deepened my passion for supporting children and helping them reach their full potential. This is my first year at Khalsa School, and I feel truly grateful and excited to be part of such a wonderful and caring team. My philosophy of education is that every child is unique and deserves a safe, supportive, and stimulating environment where they can grow physically, mentally, emotionally, and socially. Outside of school, I am a proud mother to a wonderful son. I enjoy spending quality time with my family and being outdoors, especially connecting with nature.

I was born and raised in Calgary, Alberta, where I also completed my education. I hold two degrees from the University of Calgary—a Bachelor of Communication & Culture and a Bachelor of Education (B.Ed.)—and later earned my Master of Education (M.Ed.) from Athabasca University. This year marks my fifteenth year with Khalsa School, where I have had the privilege of serving in different roles, starting as a teacher, then as an assistant principal for two years, and now entering my fifth year as principal. It has been an honor to work alongside our students, families, staff, and the broader community. Beyond my professional role, I enjoy spending time with family and friends, going for long walks, hiking, working out, and travelling.
Ms. Melissa Zaseybida

This year marks my 14th year at Khalsa School Calgary and 23rd year in education. I joined KSC as a kindergarten teacher in 2013, a role I held for four years, and then taught grade 2 for seven years. I also served as the Student Services Coordinator for one year. In addition to my classroom responsibilities, I have held leadership positions including Division 1 Learning Lead for 6 years and Acting Principal for the 2024–2025 school year. This year will be my second year as Assistant Principal, supporting our dedicated staff and students to achieve another successful year at KSC. Prior to joining Khalsa School, I worked with the Calgary Board of Education. I hold a Masters of Teaching from Griffith University in Queensland, Australia, and a Bachelor of Arts degree majoring in Psychology and Education from Concordia University of Edmonton. When I am not working, I am a mom of two amazing teenage daughters whose school and extracurricular activities, as well as our family love for adventure and travel, make for a busy household.

I have been a valued member of the Khalsa School team since August 2021. Originally from Punjab, India, I relocated to Calgary in 2010. I hold a Master’s degree and a Bachelor of Education from Punjab University, along with an Administrative Professional Certificate from Bow Valley College. I bring extensive administrative experience, having worked with reputable institutions including Bow Valley College, the University of Calgary, and Guru Amar Das Niwas Nursing Home Association. In my current role, I take pride in supporting students and parents, ensuring a welcoming and efficient school environment. Outside of work, I am a dedicated mother of twins who keep me actively engaged at home. In my personal time, I enjoy reading, watching movies, hiking, and travelling.

My name is Tanvir Kaur and this is my third year working as an administrative assistant in Khalsa School Calgary. Since then, I have developed a deep appreciation for educational excellence and teamwork. I earned Bachelor and Masters degree in Laws from Panjab University. I served as an Assistant Professor of Laws for more than 3 years in my home country India. After immigrating to Canada, I joined Khalsa School Calgary in August 2023 as an Administrative Assistant. As an Admin, I am very passionate about helping staff and students while supporting the daily operations of school with efficiency and thus creating a positive environment. My personal interests are baking and spending time with my family.
